FIRST READING

A reading from the Book of the prophet Zephaniah 

I will leave among you a humble and lowly people. (2:3; 3:12-13)

Seek the LORD, all you humble of the earth,
who have observed his law;
seek justice, seek humility;
perhaps you may be sheltered
on the day of the LORD’s anger.
But I will leave as a remnant in your midst
a people humble and lowly,
who shall take refuge in the name of the LORD:
the remnant of Israel.
They shall do no wrong

nor shall there be found in their mouths

Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord. (1:26-31)

Consider your own calling, brothers and sisters.
Not many of you were wise by human standards,
not many were powerful,
not many were of noble birth.
Rather, God chose the foolish of the world to shame the wise,
and God chose the weak of the world to shame the strong,
and God chose the lowly and despised of the world,
those who count for nothing,
to reduce to nothing those who are something,
so that no human being might boast before God.
It is due to him that you are in Christ Jesus,
who became for us wisdom from God,
as well as righteousness, sanctification, and redemption,
so that, as it is written,
“Whoever boasts, should boast in the Lord.”

PROFESSION OF FAITH

I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
(at the words that follow up to and including and became man, all bow)
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven

He will come again in glory

Our response is: Lord, hear our prayer.

For the Church, guided by the Spirit to recognise the presence of Jesus in our midst. Lord, hear our prayer.

For all living in loneliness at home, in nursing facilities or in retirement residences; for the recovery of those seriously ill in hospitals or intensive care units; and for safety and health of all care givers. Lord, hear our prayer.

For an openness in the hearts of all to understand how God is calling them, whether to marriage, ordained ministry, religious life, or single life, and for those who mentor them in this process. Lord, hear our prayer.

For the hungry and disadvantaged of our community; for those who work with young people, the poor and the needy; and for all secondary students preparing for a new academic year. Lord, hear our prayer.

For the spiritual and physical well-being of all parishioners; for our loved one who have left the community of the Church; and for those who have died recently. Lord, hear our prayer.
